Omni Metals has entered into an exclusive partnership agreement with IB2 to develop Pakistan’s first
high-silica bauxite upgrading plant using IB2’s proprietary processing technology.
This groundbreaking project is designed to unlock the full value of Pakistan’s bauxite reserves by
transforming previously difficult-to-process high silica bauxite into commercially viable material suitable
for global alumina refineries.
The project represents a major step forward for Pakistan’s mining sector and positions the country as a
future strategic supplier of upgraded bauxite to the international aluminium industry.
A First-of-Its-Kind Project in Pakistan
The planned processing facility will be the first plant of its kind in Pakistan and one of the few globally
using IB2’s advanced proprietary technology.
IB2’s technology has already attracted international backing and strategic investment from major global
commodity companies including Glencore, highlighting the significance and credibility of the process.
Under the exclusive agreement, Omni Metals is the only company authorised to deploy this technology
for bauxite upgrading operations in Pakistan.
Solving the High Silica Bauxite Challenge
Pakistan possesses significant bauxite reserves, however much of the material contains elevated silica
levels which historically reduced its commercial value and limited export opportunities.
The Omni Metals and IB2 partnership changes this.
By reducing problematic silica and impurities, the IB2 process enables previously underutilised reserves
to become suitable for international refining markets.
This dramatically increases the amount of usable bauxite reserves in Pakistan while improving the
overall value of the country’s mining assets.
